The steps of the Gear Cube

The Gear Cube will be made by layer.

Be careful, this cube does not allow you to make quarter turns but only half turns

Step 1

The corners of the 1st layer

When the corners are completely processed, your cube will look like this:

No particular algorithm.

The placement of pieces must remain intuitive.

Step 2

The edges of the 1st layer

When all the edges have been processed, your cube will look like this:

You will first have to work on the Left-Back edges then on the Front-Back edges.

In each case, it will be necessary to carry out R movements in order to place the 2 edges with the white side at the top and in alignment with the cube.

Left-Right - Case a

The edges are poorly oriented but well placed

The algorithm helps guide them.

Left-Right - Case b

The edges are poorly oriented and poorly placed

The algorithm helps guide them.

You can then apply the algorithm of case c.

Left-Right - Case c

The edges are poorly placed (but well oriented)

The algorithm allows them to be placed.

Front-Back - Case a

The edges are poorly oriented but well placed

The algorithm helps guide them.

Front-Back - Case b

The edges are poorly oriented and poorly placed

The algorithm helps guide them.

You can then apply the algorithm of case c.

Front-Back - Case c

The edges are poorly placed (but well oriented)

The algorithm allows them to be placed.

Step 3

The centers of the 1st and 3rd layers

When the centers have been processed, your cube will look like this:

The algorithm will exchange the Up/Down centers.

Step 4

The 2nd and 3rd layer

When the layers have been processed, your cube will look like this:

Simply make between 0 and 11 half-turns of the bottom layer (Dx movement).

With a little experience, it is possible to make U-turns in the opposite direction (Dx' movement). The maximum number of U-turns can therefore be limited to 5.

Example 1 U-turn

Example 2 half turns

Example 3 half turns

Example 6 half turns

Example 9 U-turns

Example 3 opposite half-turns

Your Gear Cube is solved.
